Markus W. Schneider and Jakob Gnigler have been active as a duo since 2017, primarily focusing on improvised music. Their music create worlds that they either expand or let collapse in on themselves. Their interplay is characterized by collaboratively developed concepts regarding form and sequences of tones, as well as by more or less abstract arrangements of songs. In 2019, they released their debut album "Prosa" on the Viennese label Smallforms. The album features abstract sounds that confrontationally clash with passages reminiscent of songs.
For the theater performance "TTToxic Paradise," they composed and performed 12-tone compositions. In 2022, they were invited to participate in the Artist-in-Residence program "Hotel Pupik" in Schrattenberg, Styria.
Since October 2022, the duo has been meeting regularly for recording sessions. This organic process of recording, listening, evaluating, and editing marks their continued development. Selections from this extensive collection of material will be released in a limited edition on tape.
"As is well known, Gnigler has the ability to acoustically illustrate a wide range of temperaments in a calm manner. A new discovery for me, however, is Schneider's production of diverse sounds and his perfect, because adventurous, interaction with the saxophonist." - Andreas Fellinger, Freistil Magazine.
